U of Miami - A Top Research University in Florida

This private suburban institution serves more than 19,000 students from around the world. In fact, there are fewer students from Florida than elsewhere, providing a diverse mix of backgrounds, interests, and ideas. They have three campuses and I visited the 239 acre main campus in Coral Gables, where most undergraduate students will find themselves. With over 300 student organizations, a wide array of programs and events, and 18 Division 1 sports teams (Go Hurricanes!), there are many ways for students to get involved right on campus. Also, being located in Miami, the university is surrounded by a vibrant and diverse community with many cultural opportunities.

The University of Miami has 12 schools and colleges, serving undergraduate and graduate students in nearly 350 majors and programs. (The two most popular schools are the Arts & Sciences and the Business schools.) With honors and scholars programs, dual-degree programs, and a focus on experiential learning, there are so many different opportunities for students to engage in learning. Impressively, the university is known as a powerhouse for research - much of it through the Miller School of Medicine, but also including research in marine science, engineering, education, and psychology.

While they have a private school price tag, they do offer both merit-based and need-based scholarships which are automatically considered with early applications. About 50,000 applicants applied last year and approximately 19% of them were admitted. Also of note to applicants; they are remaining test-optional (SAT/ACT) for Fall 2024.

There is a lot to consider when selecting a college and learning about the unique programs offered can be very helpful. Confident College Planning guides students and families in the process of finding colleges which best meet their personal needs and interests so that the student will be most successful. Our services include planning discussions for exploring majors, making college lists and college visits, and individualized attention for essay editing, application review and tracking, scholarship research, and funding strategies.
